JOB PURPOSE
To provide safe and reliable transportation of learners in Special Schools, as well as messenger, delivery, collection and general support services to the institution.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Transport learners in Special Schools to and from school by following designated routes and schedules.
Comply with all applicable traffic laws and road safety regulations.
Communicate effectively with learners, parents and school staff.
Assist learners with safe loading and off-loading.
Report incidents involving learners to school personnel and parents in accordance with established procedures.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
Supervise learners during transportation to ensure their safety and compliance with departmental policies.
Conduct daily safety and operational inspections of the assigned vehicle.
Report mechanical faults and arrange for necessary repairs when required.
Conduct periodic safety drills as required by law and complete the necessary reports.
Collect and deliver documents, correspondence, mail, packages and other items between the institution, post office, government departments and external stakeholders.
Purchase and load equipment, groceries and other items required by the institution.
Transport learners to clinics, hospitals and other healthcare facilities when required.
Plan and follow efficient routes using maps or GPS to ensure timely transportation and avoid unnecessary delays.
Ensure that the vehicle is fuelled, clean, safe and properly maintained.
Maintain accurate trip, mileage, fuel consumption and goods-handling records and logbooks.
Assist with general office and clerical duties, including filing, photocopying and running errands.
Assist with loading and unloading goods and equipment.
Provide professional and courteous service when interacting with clients, learners, parents and other stakeholders.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Grade 12 / Matric
Valid Code 10 driver's licence with Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
3 years' bus driving experience will be an added advantage.
A driver's competency test will be conducted before appointment.
