Job Description
BTT is currently recruiting for an Operator Level 4 to join the Durban Operations Team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of bulk storage facilities on a shift basis while maintaining effective operational and SHEQ standards.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 or equivalent
Proficiency in English
Mathematics and Science preferred
Completed all Operator Level 4 competency modules as required by the training centre
At least 1 year of experience in chemical plant operations
Code 08 driver's licence preferred
Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Working safely at all times and adhering to PPE requirements
Performing all operational and SHEQ activities in accordance with BTT policies and work instructions
Ensuring compliance with the OHS Act, SHEQ systems, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, and applicable industry legislation
Following operational procedures for the loading and discharge of products
Assisting with the receipt and dispatch of ships, road tankers, rail tankers and drums as directed
Assisting with tank stripping and the preparation of lines and equipment for operations
Carrying and connecting hoses as directed
Inserting and removing pigs as directed
Assisting with filling, stencilling, preparation and cleaning of drums
Connecting road, rail, shipping and drumming hoses for loading and offloading under the direction and supervision of a Level 2 Operator or above
Assisting with daily dips under the supervision of an Operator Level 2
Loading and decanting vehicles unsupervised once connections have been performed or line-ups have been checked by an Operator Level 2 or above
Assisting with the cleaning of separators, bund floors, tanks, berth lines, roads, vehicles and lines in preparation for product transfer
Moving between sites when required by the Team Leader or Supervisor due to operational requirements
Performing general housekeeping duties, including painting, sweeping, cleaning, grass cutting and washing floors
Operating a forklift to stack and store products where the employee is a licensed forklift operator
Performing any other legal and lawful duties that are in the interest of the company
Competencies
The ideal candidate should have:
Availability and willingness to work shifts according to the BTT shift roster
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of pumps, valves and operational procedures
Ability to follow safety and operational procedures
Ability to work effectively as part of an operations team
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must be physically fit in accordance with the Occupational Risk Exposure Profile (OREP).
