Job Description
Tiger Brands is looking for an Operator Basket Washer to join its bakery operations in Pretoria.
The Bakery Basket Washer Operator is responsible for operating industrial tray and basket washing equipment to ensure a continuous supply of clean and dry baskets for daily production and dispatch operations.
The role involves operating the mechanical washer, drying baskets, sorting damaged or non-standard crates, and maintaining high standards of housekeeping and safety around the washing area.
Key Responsibilities
Washer Operation
Load, operate and unload the automated basket and crate washing machine throughout the shift
Ensure a continuous supply of clean baskets to support production flow
Monitor the washing process and maintain consistent operations
Basket Drying
Use high-speed air knives and floor or inline fans to thoroughly dry baskets
Ensure baskets are dry before stacking or sending them to packing lines
Sorting and Segregation
Inspect incoming baskets and systematically separate:
Damaged or broken baskets requiring repair or disposal
Extremely dirty or uncured baskets requiring manual pre-scrubbing
Competitor or third-party crates to prevent them from being mixed with factory stock
Housekeeping and Area Safety
Maintain a clean, safe and organised washing station
Remove excess water from the wash area
Sweep and remove debris
Prevent and address slip hazards in the wash bay
Maintain good housekeeping standards throughout the shift
Storage and Staging
Neatly stack clean and dry baskets
Organise baskets in designated staging areas
Ensure baskets are easily accessible to production and dispatch teams
Equipment Care
Perform basic pre-start equipment checks
Routinely clean filter screens and catch trays
Report mechanical jams, faults and other equipment issues to the maintenance team promptly
Key Requirements
The successful candidate should have:
Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks
Ability to lift, bend and stack crates to standard operational heights
Strong visual attention to detail
Ability to identify damaged, dirty or non-standard crates
Ability to work effectively in a wet, noisy and fast-paced operational environment
Ability to maintain high standards of safety and housekeeping
