Code 14 Driver Job Opportunity
Macsteel is looking for a reliable and safety-conscious Code 14 Driver to complete local and long-distance deliveries while providing excellent customer service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring timely deliveries, performing daily vehicle inspections, maintaining vehicle roadworthiness, safely loading and offloading materials, completing delivery documentation and complying with road traffic, SHEQ and company safety requirements.
The role requires professionalism when dealing with customers and suppliers, adherence to delivery schedules and the correct use of company PPE and attire.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 / NQF Level 4.
Valid Code 14 / EC driver's licence.
Valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP).
Previous Code 14 driving experience.
Previous experience with local and/or countrywide deliveries.
Knowledge of material grades, steel products and Macsteel products will be advantageous.
Ability to read and understand loading notes, delivery notes, trip sheets and other delivery documentation.
Ability to use measuring equipment, including a vernier and measuring tape.
Ability to communicate effectively in English — read, write and speak.
Customer-focused with the ability to represent the Company professionally.
Willing to multitask and assist in different operational areas when required.
Willing to work overtime, shifts, weekends and outside normal working hours when operationally required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Driving & Deliveries
Complete local and countrywide customer deliveries according to planned routes and schedules.
Adhere to designated routes and ensure all stops are recorded on the relevant trip sheet.
Report delays, breakdowns, route deviations and other delivery concerns to management immediately.
Ensure vehicles are not left unattended while off Company premises.
Perform reasonable and lawful duties as required by management.
Vehicle Checks, Roadworthiness & Safety
Complete the required daily vehicle checklist before departure.
Report vehicle defects or safety concerns immediately.
Ensure the allocated vehicle remains clean, safe and roadworthy.
Check tyres, vehicle condition and required safety equipment before use.
Ensure vehicles are refuelled when required.
Ensure all required vehicle and driver documentation is valid and available.
Comply with Company SHEQ requirements, road traffic legislation and safe-driving procedures.
Report accidents, incidents, vehicle damage and breakdowns according to Company procedures.
Loading, Offloading & Material Control
Ensure loaded materials correspond with the relevant loading and delivery documentation.
Ensure loads are correctly positioned, safely secured and within permitted vehicle load limits.
Check that materials are in acceptable condition before leaving the branch.
Protect loads against adverse weather conditions where required.
Assist with loading and offloading materials at the branch and customer premises when required.
Ensure goods are delivered to the correct customer and delivery address.
Obtain authorised signatures and proof of delivery.
Return completed trip sheets, signed delivery notes and other required documentation.
Customer Service
Represent Macsteel professionally when dealing with customers and suppliers.
Provide professional and courteous service during deliveries.
Wear the required Company attire and PPE at all times.
Maintain a professional appearance and attitude when representing the Company.
