Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Adult Education and Training (AET/ABET) Level 3 or equivalent (Grade 7).

  • No experience is required.

Skills and Competencies

Applicants should have:

  • Basic knowledge of Batho Pele Principles, Patients' Rights Charter, Occupational Health and Safety and National Core Standards.

  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures.

  • Basic knowledge of the health system.

  • Good communication, listening and interpersonal skills.

  • Good observation and organisational skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to work under pressure.

  • Ability to act with tact and discretion.

  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment and machines.

  • Willingness to work shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays.

Duties

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Cleaning floors, walls, windows, doors and bathrooms.

  • Cleaning offices, clinics, corridors, waiting areas, entrances and other areas.

  • Cleaning furniture, carpets and equipment.

  • Removing medical and general waste.

  • Cleaning bins and handling cardboard waste.

  • Operating heavy-duty cleaning machines.

  • Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment.

  • Handling and storing linen.

  • Cleaning kitchens, refrigerators and other areas as required.

  • Refilling soap containers.

  • Keeping trolleys clean.

  • Sorting and sealing contaminated linen.

  • Controlling kitchen and bathroom stock.

  • Completing daily cleaning control lists.

  • Following cleaning, infection control and health and safety procedures.

  • Attending required meetings and training.

  • Performing other duties assigned by the supervisor.
