About the Opportunity
South Deep Gold Mine is offering aspiring employees and prospective applicants from its Host Communities an opportunity to participate in a formal Learner Miner Learnership Programme.
The programme provides practical, work-based training designed to help learners adapt to the working environment and develop the skills required to pursue a career in mining.
Host Community Requirements
To qualify as an applicant from a Host Community, candidates must meet at least one of the following requirements:
Be a resident of one of the following Host Communities:
Bekkersdaal
Zuurberkom
Thusanang
Hillshaven
Westonaria
Poortjie
Simunye
Kalbasfontein
Jachtfontein
OR
Have successfully completed Grade 12 / Matric at a school situated within one of the above-mentioned Host Communities.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 / Matric (NQF Level 4) or an equivalent N3 qualification with two languages passed.
Minimum 2 years' experience in a mining operation.
Must be medically fit for the position and working environment.
Must successfully complete the required risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre.
Must pass the Heat Tolerance Screening test and any other assessments required to determine suitability for employment.
Key Competencies
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Comply with all applicable health and safety rules and regulations on the mine.
Complete technical training as prescribed by the MQA / DMRE during the training programme.
Maintain consistent performance during scheduled technical evaluation cycles.
Take personal responsibility for career development and participate in developmental discussions.
Engage with the Human Resource Development and technical oversight teams to obtain feedback.
Comply with company conditions of employment, policies and code of conduct.
Promote teamwork and contribute effectively as a team member.
Uphold the values of South Deep Gold Mine, including Safety, Respect, Collaboration and Responsibility.
Demonstrate proficient English oral and written communication skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
Apply safe work practices in accordance with prescribed standards, procedures and site requirements.
Identify, report and escalate safety, health, environmental and risk-related conditions, incidents and accidents to the immediate supervisor.
Participate in risk assessments with the Artisan before work is carried out.
Assist Artisans with the execution of daily maintenance activities.
Handle, clean and store tools safely.
Maintain good housekeeping in workshops, maintenance areas and surrounding plant areas.
Report hazards and risks that may affect the health and safety of employees.
Perform standby duties when required.
