Job Overview
South African National Blood Service is seeking a reliable and hardworking Handyman Assistant to support the General Handyman in maintaining buildings, equipment, and surrounding facilities in excellent condition.
The successful candidate will assist with maintenance tasks, workshop upkeep, equipment handling, and administrative duties while ensuring safety and cleanliness standards are maintained.
Minimum Requirements
Education
Grade 10 certificate
A certificate in Carpentry, Plumbing, or Welding will be advantageous
Experience & Knowledge
Relevant experience in one or more of the following:
Painting
Basic welding
Plumbing
Carpentry
General maintenance work

Main Responsibilities
Maintenance & General Assistance
Assist the General Handyman with maintenance and repair tasks
Ensure required tools and manpower are available
Prepare, dismantle, and reassemble equipment during repairs
Travel to sites and branches to assist with maintenance duties
Assist other departments when required
Perform additional duties assigned by supervisors
Tools & Equipment Management
Sign tools and equipment in and out correctly
Maintain and clean tools to extend their lifespan
Ensure ladder and tool registers are completed monthly
Worksite Cleanliness & Safety
Maintain cleanliness of worksites and workshops
Sweep and dust machinery regularly
Conduct basic safety checks
Ensure fire equipment is checked and maintained
Administrative Duties
Close work orders
Complete purchase requisitions
Maintain attendance registers
Ensure good timekeeping and record keeping
Important Information
Candidates must be willing to travel to various sites and branches when required
Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and SHEQ compliance is important
The role requires physical fitness and the ability to perform hands-on maintenance work
