Purpose of the Job:
To validate and assess legal cost bills and ensure the effective processing of cost-related claims in accordance with the law, RAF policies, and service agreements.
Key Performance Areas:
1. Assessment of Bills
-
Screen bills for compliance with RAF Act, SLA, Rules of Court, and RAF Tariffs.

Evaluate settled/taxed bills of cost, block settlements, and taxation-prepared bills.
-
Prepare cost contributions and evaluate assessor invoices.
2. Assessment of Service Providers’ Bills
-
Review and assess Advocates’ accounts and Panel Attorneys’ files.
-
Review Expert disbursement accounts.
-
Identify and refer SLA breaches.
3. Attend to Taxation of Bills
-
Prepare offers, attend taxations in Magistrate’s, Regional, and High Courts.
-
Appear before Taxing Masters to argue complex cost issues.
4. Review of Bills of Cost
-
Prepare and serve review documents.
-
Appear before Magistrates/Judges in review proceedings.
-
Negotiate reasonable settlements and recover excess costs.
5. Authorisation and Payment Processing
-
Perform fee analysis, duplication checks, and cost approvals.
-
Request and process payments on internal systems.
-
Submit documents to Finance and maintain performance statistics.
-
Handle stakeholder queries and prepare payment batch reports.
6. Advisory and Support Role
-
Provide advice to Claims teams, Attorneys, and Cost Consultants.

Instruct Panel Attorneys for remote court attendances.
-
Stay up to date on case law and legal cost principles.
7. Quality Assurance on Writs Reporting
-
Investigate, reconcile, and report on writs issued.
Minimum Requirements:
-
NQF 7 (Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma) in Law or related qualification.

Admission as an Attorney (advantageous).

At least 3 years’ experience in Claims or Legal Costs environment.
