About the Role

The successful Grade B Security Officer will report to the Security Manager and play an important role in maintaining a safe and secure environment.

The position involves supervising security personnel, controlling access to sites, conducting patrols, responding to incidents, monitoring security systems, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with company and site procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Supervisory and Leadership Duties

  • Supervise and coordinate security staff.

  • Maintain order and discipline among security personnel.

  • Conduct security briefings and debriefings.

  • Assign duties and shifts to security staff.

  • Support team leadership and ensure compliance with site standards.

Access Control and Visitor Management

  • Control access points and ensure secure entry and exit.

  • Verify identities and manage visitor registers.

  • Regulate vehicle and pedestrian movement.

  • Ensure that access control procedures are followed.

Patrols and Physical Security

  • Conduct regular site patrols and building inspections.

  • Perform perimeter checks.

  • Ensure that premises are secure after operating hours.

  • Check windows, gates, doors, and other access points.

Incident and Emergency Response

  • Respond to alarms, emergencies, and urgent incidents.

  • Activate alarms or panic mechanisms to obtain assistance when necessary.

  • Deal with trespassers or offenders professionally and in accordance with legal procedures.

  • Assist with maintaining safety during emergency situations.

Surveillance and Monitoring

  • Monitor CCTV cameras, alarms, and other security systems.

  • Identify suspicious activities.

  • Investigate potential security threats and report irregularities.

Reporting and Documentation

  • Maintain accurate incident reports and observation logs.

  • Complete inspection records and client communication records.

  • Prepare detailed and professional reports following incidents or irregularities.

  • Ensure all required documentation is completed accurately and on time.

Client Service and Professional Conduct

  • Provide professional customer service to clients, visitors, and employees.

  • Address client concerns and provide relevant security updates.

  • Maintain positive working relationships with clients and site personnel.

  • Demonstrate integrity, professionalism, ethical conduct, and adherence to anti-corruption standards.

Compliance and Operational Standards

  • Enforce company security procedures and protocols.

  • Ensure compliance with PSIRA standards and site-specific requirements.

  • Follow applicable national, provincial, and local laws.

Equipment and System Management

  • Check that security equipment is functioning properly.

  • Monitor and use equipment such as radios, CCTV systems, and access control systems.

  • Report faulty equipment and assist with preventative maintenance where required.

Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Valid PSIRA Grade B Certificate

  • Matric

  • Previous security experience

  • Knowledge of access control systems

  • Knowledge of CCTV and alarm systems

  • Strong observation and reporting skills

  • Good communication skills

  • Ability to handle conflict situations calmly and professionally

  • Physically fit and able to perform security duties

  • Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays

  • Driver's licence will be an advantage, depending on site requirements

  • Firearm competency for business purposes will be an advantage
