Role Summary
The Driver will be responsible for providing a safe, reliable, and professional bus service for Reddam House Umhlanga.
The successful candidate will transport students safely to and from school, drive students to field trips and sporting events, and carry out school-related errands as required.
The Driver will be expected to establish a positive rapport with students while ensuring that all passengers comply with the school's safety and conduct procedures.
The role may also include assisting with general school requirements, including maintenance, gardening, and other operational duties when required.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct daily bus inspections and complete the required bus log before every trip.
Safely transport students between their homes and school.
Drop students only at authorised stops.
Transport only authorised students and passengers.
Drive students to school field trips, sporting events, and other approved activities.
Ensure all passengers have their seatbelts fastened before the vehicle moves.
Ensure all seatbelts are in good working condition before leaving campus.
Maintain appropriate rules of conduct on the bus and respond appropriately to emergencies.
Inspect brakes, tyres, lights, and other vehicle components before use.
Complete and submit daily pre-trip inspection documentation to the Estate Manager / Head.
Report mechanical problems, vehicle defects, delays, or lateness promptly.
Notify the Estate Manager / Head of any route deviations.
Keep the assigned bus clean, safe, and presentable.
Ensure the bus is washed twice a week.
Report all minor and major accidents or damage to the vehicle and complete the required reports.
Complete diesel, oil, fuel, and travel logs when refuelling the bus.
Perform school-related errands as required.
Assist with maintenance, gardening, and other school-related operational requirements when necessary.
Work overtime when required.
Maintain professional and safe driving habits that reflect positively on Reddam House.
Wear the school-issued uniform while on duty.
Ensure that the PDP and Code 10 driver's licence remain valid at all times.
Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by management.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Matric / Grade 12 certificate.
Valid Code 10 driver's licence.
Valid Public Driving Permit (PDP).
Ability to read, write, and communicate proficiently in English.
Experience and Skills
At least 3 years' experience driving a bus is preferred.
Previous school bus driving experience will be advantageous.
Good communication skills with students, staff, and parents.
Strong understanding of passenger and road safety.
Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies.
Good organisational and time-management skills.
