Job Description

The Western Cape Government Department of Health and Wellness is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for 3 Cleaner positions.

The successful candidates will be responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, hygiene and general upkeep within healthcare facilities.

Locations

  • Grassy Park CDC – 1 post

  • Vanguard CHC – 2 posts

Salary

R144,024 – R169,656 per annum

The salary package includes service benefits such as:

  • 13th cheque

  • Employer contribution to the pension fund

  • Housing allowance

  • Medical aid allowance

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Basic numeracy skills

  • Basic literacy skills

Competencies and Skills

Candidates should have:

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Knowledge of correct methods for handling and disposing of refuse/waste products

  • Knowledge of cleaning practices and relevant policies

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

Inherent Requirements

The successful candidate must:

  • Be physically capable of performing cleaning duties

  • Be able to operate heavy-duty cleaning and household equipment

  • Be willing and able to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays

  • Be willing to work day and night duty when required

  • Be willing to rotate between various departments according to operational requirements

  • Follow occupational health and safety requirements

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Sweeping, scrubbing and mopping floors

  • Dusting and polishing surfaces

  • Cleaning windows and walls

  • Removing refuse and waste

  • Cleaning and maintaining hospital grounds

  • Maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene

  • Properly using and storing cleaning materials and equipment

  • Following safety precautions and occupational health and safety policies

  • Providing effective cleaning support to the Facility Manager and colleagues

  • Ensuring cleaning equipment and materials are used efficiently
