Job Description

Woolworths is looking for a Store Assistant: Stockroom to join its retail team in Tygervalley.

In this role, you will support efficient store operations by receiving, organising and managing stock within the stockroom. You will help ensure that merchandise is correctly processed, stored and made available to the sales floor while maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic working environment.

The position also involves supporting stock transfers, returns, waste processing and stock-related administration while providing professional and responsive service to internal customers and colleagues.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent NQF qualification.

  • Previous experience in a retail or Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) stockroom or receiving environment is highly desirable.

  • Ability and willingness to work flexible shifts according to store operational requirements.

  • Basic product knowledge relevant to stockroom inventory and retail merchandise.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills.

  • Ability to follow company policies and procedures.

  • Ability to maintain an organised, hygienic and safe stockroom.

  • Customer service-oriented approach with a friendly and responsive attitude.

  • Basic planning, organising and attention-to-detail skills.

  • Reliable and committed to maintaining attendance, dress code and workplace standards.

  • High level of personal integrity and ethical conduct.

Key Responsibilities

Stock Receiving & Processing

  • Receive, check and process incoming stock deliveries.

  • Verify quantities, descriptions and condition of stock against delivery notes and invoices.

  • Assist with unpacking, sorting, labelling and storing stock in the correct locations.

  • Report stock shortages, damages and discrepancies to the appropriate manager.

  • Ensure incoming stock is processed accurately and efficiently.

Stockroom Management

  • Maintain an organised, clean and hygienic stockroom environment.

  • Ensure stock is stored safely and according to company procedures.

  • Keep shelves, racks and storage areas neat and clearly labelled.

  • Assist with housekeeping duties within the stockroom and surrounding areas.

  • Monitor stock levels and report low-stock situations where required.

Stock Control

  • Conduct regular stock counts and assist with stock takes.

  • Maintain accurate stock records and update relevant systems where required.

  • Pick and prepare stock for store replenishment or customer requests.

  • Rotate stock according to expiry dates or applicable stock rotation procedures, including FIFO where required.

  • Assist with stock transfers between departments and stores.

Returns, Damages & Waste

  • Assist with processing returned stock.

  • Handle damaged stock according to company procedures.

  • Assist with write-off and waste-processing procedures.

  • Report stock losses, potential theft risks and discrepancies to management.

Store & Customer Support

  • Support the sales floor team by ensuring stock is available when required.

  • Assist with moving stock using appropriate handling equipment.

  • Respond to internal customer requests in a timely and professional manner.

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and management.

  • Provide friendly and responsive service to internal customers.

Health & Safety

  • Follow all applicable health and safety procedures when handling and storing stock.

  • Maintain safe working conditions within the stockroom.

  • Report safety hazards and operational concerns to management.

  • Ensure stock and equipment are handled appropriately to reduce risks and damage.

Working Environment

This position forms part of Woolworths' Store Selling Operations and requires flexibility to work shifts according to store operational requirements.
