Job Overview
Victoria Hospital is seeking a dedicated and reliable Porter to provide an efficient patient transport and support service within the hospital environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for safely transporting patients, delivering specimens and documentation, maintaining equipment, and ensuring a clean, safe, and hygienic working environment. This role requires physical fitness, teamwork, and a strong commitment to patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Transportation
Safely transport patients using wheelchairs and trolleys.
Assist patients when moving between wards, departments, and treatment areas.
Ensure patient comfort and safety during transportation.
Specimen & Document Delivery
Collect and deliver blood specimens and blood hampers.
Transport patient folders and other hospital documentation.
Ensure timely delivery of items between departments.
Mortuary Support
Assist with the respectful removal and transportation of deceased patients from wards when required.
Equipment Maintenance
Ensure wheelchairs, trolleys, and other equipment are properly maintained.
Collect, clean, and store equipment according to hospital procedures.
Report damaged or faulty equipment.
Workplace Safety & Hygiene
Maintain a safe and hygienic work environment.
Adhere to infection prevention and control measures.
Follow hospital policies and safety regulations at all times.
Teamwork & Professional Conduct
Promote positive working relationships with staff and patients.
Adhere to the hospital dress code and code of conduct.
Contribute to a professional and patient-focused environment.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Requirements
Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Appropriate working experience in a hospital environment.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work effectively within a team.
Additional Requirements
Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Physically fit and able to perform duties involving lifting and transferring patients.
Must be of sober habits.
