Job Overview

Mediclinic Hoogland is looking for a Patient Scheduling Clerk to join its team in Bethlehem, Free State. The successful candidate will be responsible for scheduling theatre cases, managing patient bookings, allocating wards, and ensuring the efficient utilisation of operating theatres and hospital beds.

This position is ideal for candidates who are organised, computer literate, and interested in pursuing a career in healthcare administration.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent (Essential)
  • Experience working with computers (Essential)

Advantageous

  • Experience with theatre or ICU scheduling
  • Experience using the AS400 patient administration system
  • Knowledge of ICD and CPT coding in a private healthcare environment

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule theatre cases accurately to maximise theatre utilisation.
  • Distribute theatre lists to relevant departments in accordance with the Patient Administration Manual.
  • Capture all patient bookings and theatre cases on the hospital system.
  • Allocate patients to appropriate wards to optimise bed availability.
  • Ensure accurate and timely scheduling of procedures.
  • Communicate scheduling information with relevant healthcare professionals and departments.
  • Maintain accurate patient booking records and administration.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of patient administration systems (AS400 will be advantageous)
  • Understanding of Level 1 clinical coding
  • Ability to allocate theatre time and manage patient bookings
  • Basic anatomy and medical terminology knowledge
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy healthcare environment
