Purpose of the Position

The HTS and Linkage Officer will be responsible for HIV testing services for People Who Inject Drugs (PWID), facilitating referrals, and ensuring successful linkage to care and treatment services.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 completed or Senior Certificate

  • Finger Prick Certificate

  • HIV/AIDS Counselling Certificate (minimum 10-day course)

  • 1–2 years HIV counselling experience

  • Understanding of South African HIV Testing Services guidelines and quality assurance processes

  • Knowledge of HIV, STI and TB prevention approaches

  • Knowledge of Key Populations (KP) programmes will be advantageous

  • Computer literacy in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Fluent in English and isiZulu

  • Ability to travel when required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide integrated, client-centred HIV Testing Services (HTS)

  • Conduct HIV rapid diagnostic testing using finger-prick procedures

  • Obtain informed consent for HIV testing, TB screening and STI screening

  • Conduct community and workplace HIV prevention initiatives

  • Provide HIV risk-reduction counselling and referrals

  • Ensure compliance with HTS, infection control and waste management guidelines

  • Maintain HIV testing equipment and supplies

  • Support quality assurance programmes and proficiency testing

  • Build relationships with healthcare facilities to strengthen referral systems

  • Refer PWID clients to appropriate healthcare and support services

  • Navigate clients through healthcare facilities to ensure successful linkage to care
