Junior Industrial Engineer Opportunity

Feltex is currently recruiting a Junior Industrial Engineer to join its Fehrer Rosslyn operation. The successful candidate will support production process parameters and play a key role in analysing, designing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • A completed Diploma or Degree in Chemical Engineering or Industrial Engineering.

  • 1–2 years of experience in a similar role.

  • Experience working with Polyurethane Foam manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

Production Process Optimisation

The successful candidate will:

  • Conduct time studies, motion studies, and work measurement analyses.

  • Analyse manufacturing processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and waste.

  • Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Optimise production line balancing and workflow.

  • Drive improvements in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

  • Analyse availability, performance, and quality losses.

  • Support scrap reduction through root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Monitor labour efficiency and productivity performance.

Production and Operations Support

  • Monitor production processes to ensure compliance with standards and procedures.

  • Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

  • Support capacity planning and line balancing activities.

  • Investigate production issues and identify root causes.

  • Apply structured problem-solving methodologies.

  • Work closely with maintenance and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability.

Data Analysis and Reporting

  • Collect, verify, and analyse production data.

  • Monitor output, efficiency, downtime, and scrap rates.

  • Maintain production and performance records.

  • Develop KPI reports and performance dashboards.

  • Identify trends and recommend improvement opportunities.

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with company standards and quality requirements.

  • Support IATF 16949 quality management system requirements.

  • Assist with process documentation, including:

    • PFMEA

    • Control Plans

    • Work Instructions

  • Participate in internal, customer, and system audits.

  • Support initiatives aimed at reducing defects and improving product quality.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with production teams, engineers, and management.

  • Provide technical support to operators.

  • Participate in cross-functional improvement projects.

  • Assist with training and process improvement initiatives.

Safety, Health and Environment (SHE)

  • Conduct workplace risk assessments.

  • Perform planned task observations.

  • Identify hazards and critical safety concerns.

  • Implement corrective actions to address workplace risks.

  • Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental, and legal requirements.

  • Promote safe work practices around machinery and equipment.

Skills and Competencies
