Job Description
Midvaal Local Municipality is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Clerk: Debt Collection to join its Revenue Management team. The successful candidate will be responsible for debt collection administration, customer account enquiries, indigent application support, and assisting with legal debt recovery processes.
This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong communication, administrative, and customer service skills who can effectively manage debtor-related enquiries while ensuring compliance with municipal policies and procedures.
Preference will be given to Midvaal residents and applicants who promote representativity in terms of the municipality's Employment Equity targets.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
Grade 12 (Matric).
National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Financial Management, Accounting, or a related field.
Valid driver's licence.
Experience
Minimum of 2–3 years' relevant debt collection experience within a Local Government environment.

Key Responsibilities
Attend to enquiries from debtors regarding overdue municipal accounts.
Assist customers with debt-related enquiries received in person, telephonically, or in writing.
Handle cut-off list enquiries and arrange reconnection of services following payment.
Liaise with Council attorneys regarding accounts handed over for collection.
Process and post legal fees to debtor accounts through journal entries.
Verify payments transferred from Council attorneys to debtor accounts.
Assist with the administration and processing of indigent applications.
Maintain accurate debtor records and supporting documentation.
Provide administrative support to the Revenue and Debt Collection section.
Perform any other ad hoc duties assigned by management.
Salary and Benefits
Salary Scale:
R240 288 – R268 596 per annum
(Level 09 of a Grade 04 Local Authority)
Total Remuneration Package:
R395 369.84 per annum (inclusive of benefits)
