Main Purpose of the Job
To respond to emergency medical calls and provide Basic Life Support (BLS) in line with the HPCSA scope of practice for a Basic Ambulance Assistant (BAA), while ensuring readiness for duty and representing ER24 positively in public and operational environments.
Key Responsibilities

Operational Readiness:
Prepare and check emergency response equipment, vehicles, and supplies before shifts to ensure prompt deployment. -
Patient Care Delivery:
Administer basic emergency care to patients within the scope of practice, ensuring accurate patient assessment and appropriate intervention. -
Public Image & Engagement:
Promote a professional image of ER24 by delivering compassionate care and maintaining professional conduct at all times.

Essential:

Basic Ambulance Assistant Certificate

Desired:

Completion of Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) training as published by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)

Note: If not CPG compliant at the time of application, training must be completed during probation.

Required Experience

Essential Minimum:

6 months to 1 year of road-based BLS experience

Desired:

2 years’ road BLS experience

Required Knowledge and Skills
-
Knowledge of HPCSA clinical guidelines and BAA scope of practice

Familiarity with EMS protocols, environments, and medical ethics

Understanding of local travel routes and demographics
-
Competence in completing Patient Report Forms (PRFs)

Strong verbal and written communication skills in English

Commitment to best practices in emergency medical services
