Job Purpose
This role offers the opportunity to work in operations, focusing on understanding client requirements and ensuring their import shipments are handled on time, in full, with no errors (OTIFNE). The position involves managing the entire shipping process from cargo collection at origin to final delivery, including local customs formalities, all while minimizing costs and maximizing revenue.
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications:
- Matric (Grade 12)
- Relevant tertiary qualification is essential
Experience:
- 3-5 years’ experience as an Import Client Controller (Ocean)
- Strong working knowledge of Seafreight Imports, including Customs and related EDI processes
- Proven track record in effective communication skills
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain continuous communication with clients, updating them on the status of their shipments, clearances, and deliveries via phone and email. All key issues must be noted in the operating system.
- Regularly meet, visit, or call clients to understand their business needs, potential problem areas, and competitor activities, and provide feedback to management.
- Liaise with vessel agents, groupage agents, port authorities, unpack depots, and other third parties as necessary.
- Monitor the status of shipments and ensure there are no delays from the receipt of documents to invoicing and delivery. Address delays promptly with the responsible department or staff.
- Provide backup support to Senior Client Controllers and Assistant Controllers.
- Ensure billing, reconciliation, debtors, and financial queries are handled according to KPIs.
- Follow import and KPI processes to minimize risks and protect the company's reputation.
- Vet client documents and request any missing documents for smooth clearance through relevant authorities.
- Adhere to the Integrated Management System (IMS) and ensure proper file management closure.
- Handle and resolve disputes promptly, ensuring claims are processed within the required timeframes.
- Maintain a zero-tolerance policy for write-offs.
- Log all incident reports using the SmartSure tool.
Skills & Competencies
Knowledge:
- International forwarding and seafreight import processes
- Financial background and understanding of disputes and claims processes
- Knowledge of Incoterms
- Customer relationship building

- Valid driver’s license
