About the Role

Fedics is seeking a dedicated Assistant Catering Manager to support the Catering Manager in overseeing daily operations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality food services. This role includes food production, team supervision, ordering, and maintaining hygiene and safety standards.


Key Responsibilities

Food Production & Service

  • Assist in preparing meals, snacks, and functions with attention to quality and presentation

  • Support lunch service and kitchen operations

  • Plan and cost menus with the manager

Stock & Supplier Management

  • Place and receive supplier orders

  • Inspect and store stock properly, ensuring quality and rotation

  • Monitor security of stockrooms and lockable areas

Administration & Reporting

  • Assist with completing administrative documents (e.g., salary variations, returns)

  • Support regular stocktaking activities

  • Report maintenance, safety, and disciplinary issues

Team Supervision & Training

  • Supervise daily team operations and fill in for absent staff

  • Conduct On-the-Job Training and identify staff with promotion potential

  • Ensure compliance with HACCP, NOSA, and company hygiene regulations

Client & Business Interaction

  • Represent the catering unit in the manager’s absence

  • Attend meetings and participate in catering exhibitions and training events


Skills and Competencies

  • Enjoy working with people and leading a team

  • Good interpersonal and supervisory skills

  • Strong organisational and time-management abilities

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks

  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and public holidays

  • Excellent communication and grooming

  • Computer literate and comfortable using systems

  • Confident in delegation, negotiation, and decision-making


Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum: National Senior Certificate (Matric)

  • Preferred: Tertiary qualification in Hospitality or Catering

  • Experience: At least 2 years in a supervisory catering role
