About the Opportunity
South Deep is recruiting a Forklift Driver to join its Commercial Services: Warehouse team.
The Forklift Driver will be responsible for the safe operation of assigned forklifts to move, stack, load and unload materials. The role includes handling materials from delivery trucks and underground material cars, transporting items within the workplace and ensuring materials are safely stored according to established operating procedures.
All duties must be performed in accordance with prescribed safety standards, operating procedures and routine equipment inspection requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
- Valid Forklift Driver’s Licence.
- Valid Driver’s Licence.
- At least 2 years’ experience as a Forklift Operator in a mining environment.
- Must be medically fit for the position and working environment following a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre.
- Must pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test and any other assessments required to determine suitability for employment.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain Safety, Health and Environmental practices in accordance with company standards and procedures.
- Conduct prescribed pre-use equipment inspections using standard pre-start checklists and report any defects or deficiencies to the supervisor.
- Perform basic equipment maintenance, including topping up engine oil, water and hydraulic oil, checking for oil leaks and cleaning equipment.
- Conduct mandatory pre-task risk assessments to ensure that tasks are performed safely.
- Operate forklifts safely when loading and unloading trucks and material cars.
- Stack and pack heavy materials according to prescribed safe operating standards.
- Ensure loads remain within specified working weights, dimensions and approved loading positions.
- Seek supervisory guidance or intervention whenever there is uncertainty regarding the safe execution of a task.
- Complete end-of-shift procedures, including parking the forklift in the designated area, cleaning the equipment and reporting to the supervisor.
- Comply with the Surface Traffic Management Plan and applicable mine standards.
- Ensure the safe operation of the forklift at all times.
- Perform other activities necessary for the effective completion of assigned duties.
- Participate in scheduled and ad hoc shaft and infrastructure examinations and repairs.
