Job Overview

An exciting permanent opportunity is available for a Despatcher based in Kathu, Northern Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing the daily despatch operations to ensure that transport services run efficiently, safely, and on schedule.

The role requires strong organisational skills, operational knowledge within the transport industry, and the ability to effectively supervise drivers while ensuring client requirements are met.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • A tertiary qualification in Logistics or Transportation Management (or currently studying towards one) will be advantageous.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in the transport industry.
  • Operational and administrative experience.
  • Hands-on involvement in various areas of the transport business.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Valid Code 14 driver's licence with a valid PrDP.
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills.
  • Proactive and innovative approach to work.
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office and Outlook).

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Supporting management with daily despatch operations.
  • Handling administrative duties.
  • Supervising and monitoring driver activities.
  • Conducting pre-shift driver briefings, including:
    • Route changes
    • Client instructions
    • Safety hazards
    • Vehicle defects
  • Preparing daily driver rosters.
  • Assigning buses to scheduled routes according to client contracts.
  • Managing driver working hours in line with fatigue management and rest period regulations.
  • Adjusting schedules for overtime, weekends, public holidays, and ad hoc transport requests.
  • Monitoring buses using tracking systems and two-way radio communication.
  • Tracking real-time vehicle locations, identifying delays, and escalating issues where necessary.
