Job Overview:
RCL Foods is seeking a skilled Utilities Artisan to join their Engineering team in Krugersdorp. The role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and optimizing key utilities systems including ammonia/freon refrigeration, boilers, air compressors, and electrical reticulation. The goal is to ensure operational efficiency, equipment safety, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Minimum Requirements:

Education:
-
N3 in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or Refrigeration

Certification:
-
Trade Test (mechanical/electrical/refrigeration)
-
Registered with SAQCC GAS

Key Responsibilities:
-
Daily Plant Inspections
-
Check plant rooms, condensers, valve stations, spiral freezers, chillers, boilers, and air compressors
-

Preventative Maintenance
-
Execute maintenance tasks per schedule and work orders
-

Troubleshooting & Repairs
-
Quickly identify faults and perform efficient repairs
-
-
Safety Compliance
-
Adhere to OHS Act, SANS 10147, ammonia handling rules, PPE usage, and safety protocols for pressure vessels and critical valves

Documentation & Process Improvement
-
Maintain logs, develop SOPs, root cause analyses, and standard work routines
-

Operate Maintenance Equipment
-
Use lifting machinery and tools as needed

Quality & Housekeeping
-
Maintain cleanliness, product safety, and quality standards

Training & Supervision
-
Support apprentices and assistants, and work with senior technicians

Emergency Response Preparedness

Receive training in emergency procedures and safety equipment (e.g., “buddy-buddy” system)

General Duties:

Perform other utility-related tasks as assigned

Core Skills & Knowledge:

Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills

In-depth understanding of ammonia refrigeration systems

Knowledge of industrial safety protocols and compliance standards

Ability to read technical diagrams and maintain accurate records

Team player with strong communication and documentation skills

Able to work independently and under pressure
