Job Purpose

To supervise shift activities in a manufacturing or continuous process operation, ensuring consistent product quality, efficient processes, equipment maintenance, team management, and compliance with safety and hygiene standards.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise shift operations within the packing department

  • Monitor and report on product quality parameters

  • Maintain and update daily shift reports

  • Control production processes and raw material stock levels

  • Maintain and ensure functionality of plant, machinery, and equipment

  • Manage team performance, discipline, and training

  • Conduct regular plant inspections and escalate deviations

  • Ensure adherence to safety, health, hygiene, and food compliance standards (Toolbox Talks, PJO, Near Misses, BBS)

  • Oversee document control compliance

  • Ensure team is trained on all operational processes

  • Update and manage shift timesheets

  • Open and close process orders in the system

  • Assist with month-end cleaning and stocktaking procedures


Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 and/or relevant national qualification/certificate

  • 4–5 years of experience in an FMCG environment (Production & Manufacturing)

  • Proven supervisory or team leadership experience

Preferred:

  • National Certificate or Diploma in Production, Operations Management, or Engineering

  • Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, and hygiene standards

  • Experience with health and safety compliance

  • SAP knowledge (advantageous)

  • Strong computer literacy
