Qualifications

Purpose of the Role

To assist Section Engineers in electrical governance and ensure compliance with all electrical equipment and reticulations on site.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure legal compliance and safe work practices related to electrical engineering.
Develop, communicate, and implement standards, codes of practice, and procedures.
Maintain an electrical drawing database.
Perform inspections and audits of electrical systems.
Enforce lockout/isolation and safety procedures.
Approve modifications to protection relay settings.
Conduct compliance audits and identify root causes of equipment failure.
Provide technical input and keep up with technological developments.
Manage electrical projects and asset optimisation initiatives.
Participate in internal user and energy management forums.

Minimum Requirements

Education:
- Electrical Engineering Degree or National Diploma
- Electrical N4 Certificate (if applicable)
- Recognised Electrical Trade Test
Experience:
- 5+ years as Engineering Foreman / General Engineering Supervisor (2.9.2 appointee)
- Experience in Low, Medium, and High Voltage systems
Knowledge & Skills:
- Understanding of Mine Health and Safety Act
- Risk and safety management courses
- Electrical software experience (e.g. ETAP, Visio)
- Computer literacy: MS Office & SAP
- Knowledge of flameproofing and mining-related electrical systems
- Experience working with contractors, consultants, and third parties
Other:
- Valid South African Code 08 driver’s license
- Valid Certificate of Fitness (or ability to obtain one)

Advantageous Qualifications & Experience

Experience in opencast coal mining operations
Familiarity with Seriti’s engineering standards and systems
Member of the South African Collieries Engineering Association
Courses in:
- Management Development
- Coaching & Mentoring
- C-MIRM
- Leadership Development
- Asset Management
