Purpose of the Role

To ensure effective implementation and compliance with the Firearms Control Act and related policies within the Road Accident Fund, focusing on firearm administration, monitoring, auditing, training, and reporting.


Key Performance Areas

1. Firearm Assessment, Compliance, and Administration

  • Conduct firearm compliance audits

  • Inspect safes and interview staff requiring after-hours firearm storage

  • Manage and control firearm, ammunition, and equipment stock

  • Recommend and analyze equipment needs

  • Facilitate firearm training for close protection officers

  • Issue firearms and permits to certified personnel

  • Collect and transport firearms and related items

  • Liaise with SAPS for firearm-related activities

  • Keep up-to-date with firearm technology and trends

2. Firearm Risk Management

  • Verify firearm competency certificates

  • Control access to firearm storage (vault)

  • Maintain accurate registers and documentation

  • Inspect firearms for condition, cleanliness, and serial numbers

3. Reporting and Documentation

  • Compile reports on firearm condition, audits, and risk assessments

  • Document and report faulty or damaged firearms

  • Track corrective actions based on audit results


Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • National Diploma in Security Management or Policing

  • PSIRA grading

  • Firearm Competency Certificate (for business purposes)

  • 3 years’ relevant experience in a firearm administration and compliance role

  • Experience with Electronic Firearm Management Systems
