About the Role

Mediclinic Durbanville is seeking a Reception Administrator to manage patient admissions and discharges professionally while ensuring compliance with procedures and minimizing operational and financial risk. This role requires strong interpersonal, administrative, and confidentiality skills to deliver excellent service in a fast-paced environment.


Main Purpose of the Job

To assist patients through all aspects of the admission and discharge process while maintaining high standards of service, confidentiality, and risk control.


Key Responsibilities

  • Process admissions, pre-admissions, and bookings according to standard procedures

  • Identify and mitigate financial risks in line with company policies

  • Ensure the effective execution of patient discharge processes

  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality at all times


Minimum Education Requirements

Essential:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent

Desired:

  • None specified


Experience Requirements

Essential:

  • No minimum experience required

Desired:

  • Previous experience in reception administration

  • Experience working in a private healthcare environment


Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong computer literacy (Microsoft Office)

  • Familiarity with hospital switchboard systems

  • Knowledge of patient admin programs (e.g. AS400 system)

  • Understanding of ICD and CPT codes

  • Basic anatomy and medical terminology

  • Debtpack Enquiry system usage

  • Knowledge of Patient Admin policies (cash handling, blacklisted patients, etc.)

  • Understanding of the Workman's Compensation Act (WCA)

  • Emergency protocol awareness (fire, flood, robbery, etc.)

  • Experience handling financial risks (e.g. valuables, blacklisting flags)

  • Familiarity with medical aid schemes and private healthcare processes
