Job Purpose:
To supervise the workforce and production process to ensure that production volume targets are met efficiently and within budget, while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational and Supervisory Duties:

Supervise the day shift team to ensure production targets are achieved
-
Analyze and resolve equipment, process, and quality issues swiftly to maintain workflow
-
Prepare and issue daily production reports
-
Maintain open communication with production management and other supervisors
-
Ensure staff are trained and equipped for emergencies (e.g., fire, gas leaks)
-
Generate work orders and safe work permits during maintenance or plant breakdowns
Health, Safety, and Compliance:
-
Uphold a zero-tolerance approach to unsafe practices
-
Ensure compliance with OHS Act and environmental standards
-
Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards
-
Oversee quality, health, safety, and environmental incidents on shift
Team Leadership:
-
Plan shift rosters and set clear goals for the team
-
Ensure subordinates are given proper tools, authority, and information
-
Hold team members accountable with recognition, rewards, or disciplinary actions
-
Maintain strong industrial relations and team morale
-
Ensure all operators are trained on safety and operational procedures
Production and Quality Management:
-
Monitor and adjust key production parameters to meet quality standards
-
Promote adherence to manufacturing best practices
-
Understand plant processes and contribute to process improvement
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
-
Matric / Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 with Mathematics and Science (required)

Diploma in Chemical Engineering (advantageous)
-
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role
-
Minimum 5 years’ experience in a chemical production environment
-
Knowledge of relevant legislation and safety systems
-
Computer literacy in MS Word, MS Excel, Lotus Notes, SAP
-
Basic management skills (planning, organizing, leading, controlling)

Must be medically fit to work in a chemical environment
