Job Title: Driver Trainer
Location: Elandsfontein, Johannesburg, Gauteng
Job Type: Full-Time


Purpose of the Role

To deliver comprehensive training to new and existing drivers, ensuring adherence to company safety standards, legal compliance, and operational efficiency. This includes facilitating classroom and practical training, conducting assessments, and maintaining relevant documentation.


Key Responsibilities

Training & Assessment

  • Conduct driver assessments (new and existing staff)

  • Facilitate scheduled training sessions covering both soft skills and lifting equipment

  • Coach drivers to improve competency and address skill gaps

  • Conduct practical route assessments and ride-alongs

  • Assess drivers according to TETA standards and provide constructive feedback

Compliance & Records Management

  • Verify and maintain up-to-date driver’s licenses and PrDPs

  • Complete and file attendance registers

  • Maintain accurate and current driver files within the learner management system

  • Capture training and assessment data on internal systems

Operations Support

  • Conduct site audits and route inspections to ensure vehicle and route readiness

  • Assist with vehicle dispatch and other relevant operational tasks

  • Promote and uphold safety, housekeeping, and professional conduct

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Communicate training schedules and assessment outcomes to relevant managers

  • Use clear, understandable language during training, providing support as needed


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric

  • Code EC driver’s license with valid PrDP

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Code EC driver (including Superlink & Articulated vehicles)

  • Proven experience as a driving instructor

  • TETA-registered Assessor

  • Clean driving and criminal record

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends


Unit Standards & Certifications (Preferred)

  • Operating vehicle combination (Superlink and Articulated vehicles)

  • Operating rigid heavy and light vehicles

  • Dangerous goods handling

  • Warehouse lifting equipment operation

  • Basic Firefighting certification

  • Patience, enthusiasm, and ability to remain calm under pressure

  • Time management and problem-solving capabilities
