Assistant Manager (External Applications Only)

Location: Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa
Division: OPS 7 DIV 25 – Delft


Job Purpose
To assist the Store Manager in protecting and growing the store's profitable market share, in line with Cashbuild’s store, divisional, and company strategies.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) with at least 2 years of retail management experience

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Valid South African ID or valid work permit

  • Strong accounting, administrative, and human resources skills

  • Computer literate

  • Able to work under pressure

  • Strong leadership abilities

  • Own transport and cellphone

  • Sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation (OHSA or relevant country laws)


Key Responsibilities

Strategic Management

  • Assist the Store Manager in developing and executing the store’s Business Plan

  • Align store strategy with company goals and divisional plans

Grow and Protect Market Share

  • Achieve growth targets for sales and customer base

  • Promote customer loyalty programs

  • Distribute marketing material effectively

  • Act on competitor activity with proactive plans

Customer Service

  • Maintain customer service standards

  • Deliver on customer audit goals (above 95%)

  • Ensure reliable delivery services

  • Respond to customer surveys and feedback

Stock Control and Asset Management

  • Control shrinkage and stock movements

  • Supervise stocktake and wall-to-wall audits

  • Manage returns, IBTs, and receiving processes

  • Maintain store security and physical safety measures

Cash Management

  • Control daily banking, petty cash, debtors, RD cheques

  • Handle shorts, overs, credit cards, and cheque processes

Fixed Assets Management

  • Maintain racking, signage, forklifts, generators, IT equipment, and safes

Human Resources

  • Support recruitment and training

  • Drive development, succession planning, and career growth

  • Manage employee relations and store communications

Health & Safety (OHSA)

  • Ensure legal compliance with OHSA or related legislation

  • Manage safety appointments, checklists, and incident reports

Store Standards

  • Maintain housekeeping and merchandising standards

  • Implement correct planograms

  • Oversee yard and parking area maintenance

Profitability

  • Support income targets and expense controls

  • Implement financial models and benchmarks
