Job Opportunity: Stores Clerk

Purpose of the Role
The Stores Clerk will report to the Inventory Administrator and be responsible for daily inventory activities, including receiving, packing, and issuing inventory. The role also ensures compliance with safety and organizational standards while delivering excellent customer service.


Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management:

  • Issue inventory accurately as per reservations.
  • Receive inventory in required quantities based on purchase orders and transfer requests.
  • Verify material quality compliance with site specifications and standards.
  • Pack inventory into proper bins using the FIFO principle.
  • Handle inventory safely when packing or issuing.
  • Conduct daily, monthly, and bi-annual stock counts accurately.
  • Monitor stock levels and inform the Storekeeping Assistant of low stock availability.

Operational Support:

  • Provide full administrative support to the Storekeeping Assistant and Inventory Administrator.
  • Assist with driving duties, including operating a forklift when required.
  • Resolve complaints and queries promptly to provide excellent customer service.

Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure compliance with legislation, organizational policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001 standards.
  • Handle hazardous items responsibly, ensuring SDS documentation is received.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Education:

  • Grade 12 qualification.

Experience:

  • At least 3 years of experience in a Stores environment.

Licenses:

  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to pass Rand Water's K53 test.
  • A forklift license (advantageous).

Required Skills and Knowledge

Knowledge:

  • Storekeeping and accurate stock control practices.
  • Familiarity with OHS Act and ISO standards (ISO9001, ISO14001, ISO45001).
  • Proficient in computer usage.

Skills:

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational abilities.
  • Conflict and diversity management.
  • Customer service orientation.

  • Safety-conscious and detail-oriented.
