Position Overview
The Operator 1 role involves managing and operating the plant processes through the shift team or Distributed Control System (DCS). This position aligns with the organization's world-class manufacturing philosophy, principles, and practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Matric / Grade 12 with Mathematics and Science
- NQF Level 6 in Chemical Operations
- National Diploma in Chemical Engineering (advantageous)
Experience Required
- 2–5 years of experience in the chemical industry
- Process control experience in a chemical environment (advantageous)
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Safety Adherence
- Ensure a safe work environment through housekeeping and hazard identification.
- Raise safety tags and issue permits to work (PTW).
- Apply basic process safety knowledge, firefighting, and first aid.
Process Oversight
- Monitor and control plant processes via DCS/PLC systems.
- Correct process deviations and perform fault finding.
- Conduct autonomous maintenance, including inspections, cleaning, and lubrication.
- Manage quality control processes, sample analysis, and ensure product specifications.
People Management
- Engage and motivate team members, ensuring accountability.
- Foster a positive team morale and enforce company policies.
- Conduct effective handovers and participate in shift/team meetings.
Quality Control
- Monitor quality standards and ensure ISO compliance.
- Perform audits, spot checks, and address product deviations.
Administration
- Maintain proper written and verbal communication.
- Utilize Microsoft Office tools effectively for documentation and reporting.
