Position Overview
The General Assistant supports the truck operator in collecting products from silos and delivering them to the blasting face. This role ensures the proper housekeeping and maintenance of vehicles, re-filling areas, and other working spaces, adhering to statutory, legal, client, and BME standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 with Mathematics
Advantageous Requirements:
- Code 08 / Code B Driver’s License
- Magazine Master Ticket
- Blasting Assistant Certificate (MQA)
- Stemming Loader Certification
Experience
- Prior experience in the blasting or mining environment
- Minimum 2 years as a blasting assistant
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct risk assessments and complete Safe Work Declarations with the Blaster before starting work.
- Assist the Blaster in preparing the blast/charge-up area, adhering to all legal, client, and BME standards.
- Inspect the site with the Blaster to determine the target block and plan the blasting process.
- Erect prescribed barricading materials to mark off the working area.
- Map and measure drill holes to ensure compliance with prescribed parameters.
- Communicate deviations from prescriptions assertively and take corrective action, including interaction with mine staff or drill contractors.
- Collect appropriate accessories for blasting tasks as instructed by the Blaster.
- Assist in priming holes by inserting detonators into boosters and carefully placing them in holes under supervision.
