Job Description
RCL Foods is recruiting a driven and energetic Despatch Clerk within the baking business unit. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate stock and crate movement from production to despatching trucks and return logistics. The role involves ensuring all paperwork and transactional duties are completed accurately, efficiently, and on time.
This position is based in Durban, reporting to the Distribution Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Management:
- Verify stock handover from the previous shift.
- Ensure cages are locked and stock is signed for by the dispatch clerk and production supervisor.
- Ensure stock is loaded safely and in a manner that prevents damage.
- Manage vehicle returns, count returns, and issue credit notes (when Returns Clerk is absent).
- Conduct cycle counts and resolve discrepancies in stock.
- Accurately receipt and dispatch confectionery items according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Crate Control:
- Ensure crate movement integrity within the JDE system.
- Conduct daily crate counts and report any discrepancies.
- Manage crates during vehicle returns, including counting and issuing crate slips to drivers.
Transactional Duties:
- Print sales reports and loading sheets.
- Provide instructions to loaders for stock to be pulled and loaded.
- Process bread sales and handle cash up for cash sales.
- Print invoices for drivers and customers and ensure correct transfer of stock to the driver's route location.
- Record special requests in the request book and provide to the production supervisor.
- Complete handover sheets for the next shift.
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Grade 12 with a minimum of 60% pass in mathematics.
Skills:
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Strong numeracy skills.
- Good computer literacy, especially in Excel and email.
Experience:
- 1–2 years’ experience in a dispatch department.
- Experience in FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) is advantageous.
- Experience working with JDE (JD Edwards) is advantageous.
