Apprentice Motor Mechanic Training Level 1

Job Overview

Lindsay Saker VW East Rand is offering an Accredited Competency-Based Modular Training (CBMT) Apprenticeship. This program includes a combination of on-the-job training (OJT) and classroom instruction under the guidance of a Qualified Motor Vehicle Mechanic. The Motus Technical Training Academy (MTTA) will provide theoretical and classroom-based education.


Training Program Details

  1. Duration: 4 years (Levels 1–4).

  2. Structure:

    • 5 days of classroom training every 5 weeks at MTTA.
    • Distance learning via CDX, including interactive demonstrations, tutorials, quizzes, and practical exercises accessible online.
    • Computer-based testing and examinations.
    • Practical competency assessments.
    • On-the-job training at Lindsay Saker East Rand’s Service Department.
  3. Requirements:

    • Gather evidence for a Portfolio of Evidence as required by ITTA.
    • Assist a qualified technician with vehicle inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
    • Work towards performing quality service independently.
  4. Terms and Conditions:

    • CBMT contract with merSETA and a learnership contract with Lindsay Saker East Rand.
    • MIBCO minimum wages apply.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Education:

    • Matric with Mathematics and Physical Science, or
    • N2 with Mathematics, Engineering Science, and English (minimum 50%).
  2. Additional Requirements:

    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Computer literacy.
    • Pass a mechanical insight test.
    • Complete background checks and medical assessments.
    • Undergo a psychometric assessment and face-to-face interview if shortlisted.
