Job Opportunity: Sample Preparation Assistant

Purpose of the Position

To prepare samples for accurate testing, monitor performance, and ensure the achievement of objectives within the organization.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Sample Preparation

    • Routine preparation of samples (crushing, pulverizing, filtering, rolling, splitting, and drying).
    • Perform sieve sizing analyses.
    • Ensure proper storing of samples using specified codes and protocols.
  2. Data Management

    • Complete sample checklists and log samples into the system.
  3. Equipment Maintenance

    • Conduct first-line fault finding and inspection of sampling equipment.
    • Inspect and check balances daily at the Fire Assay section.
  4. Operational Tasks

    • Load and offload furnaces in the Fire Assay section.
    • Weigh final Prill after the high-temperature (HT) process.
    • Prepare 6E samples (Nickel Sulphate - NIS).
  5. Housekeeping

    • Clean laboratory equipment, instruments, and spillages.
    • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 certificate (Matric).
  • Valid driver’s license.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 1 year of experience in sample preparation in a laboratory setting.
    • Knowledge of nickel sulphate processes (advantageous).
  • Skills:

    • Strong understanding of sample preparation concepts (e.g., contamination, sample integrity, Fire Assay process).
    • Proficiency in the English language.
    • Excellent time management skills.

Additional Notes

This role requires someone detail-oriented and committed to quality assurance. Prior experience in a laboratory with exposure to mining-related samples is an advantage.
