Purpose of the Position
To prepare samples for accurate testing, monitor performance, and ensure the achievement of objectives within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Preparation
- Routine preparation of samples (crushing, pulverizing, filtering, rolling, splitting, and drying).
- Perform sieve sizing analyses.
- Ensure proper storing of samples using specified codes and protocols.
Data Management
- Complete sample checklists and log samples into the system.
Equipment Maintenance
- Conduct first-line fault finding and inspection of sampling equipment.
- Inspect and check balances daily at the Fire Assay section.
Operational Tasks
- Load and offload furnaces in the Fire Assay section.
- Weigh final Prill after the high-temperature (HT) process.
- Prepare 6E samples (Nickel Sulphate - NIS).
Housekeeping
- Clean laboratory equipment, instruments, and spillages.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 certificate (Matric).
- Valid driver’s license.
Experience and Skills
Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in sample preparation in a laboratory setting.
- Knowledge of nickel sulphate processes (advantageous).
Skills:
- Strong understanding of sample preparation concepts (e.g., contamination, sample integrity, Fire Assay process).
- Proficiency in the English language.
- Excellent time management skills.
Additional Notes
This role requires someone detail-oriented and committed to quality assurance. Prior experience in a laboratory with exposure to mining-related samples is an advantage.
