Purpose of the Learnership:

To equip learners with the knowledge, practical skills, and workplace experience required to become a Procurement Officer, responsible for:

  • Procuring and supplying goods/services

  • Managing supplier contracts and negotiations

  • Implementing and monitoring procurement schedules


Minimum Entry Requirements:

  • Must be unemployed

  • Must not be studying at any institution or enrolled in any learnership

  • Must not hold any post-matric qualification

    (Applicants with undisclosed post-matric qualifications will be disqualified)

  • Matric (Grade 12) with:

    • Mathematical Literacy (Level 4 or higher)

    • English (Level 4 or higher)

  • Age: 18–35 years (in line with NSDSIII)

  • Must be a South African citizen with a valid SA ID

  • Must submit a SAQA/NLRD verification report (available from SAQA website)


Additional Criteria for People with Disabilities (PWDS):

  • Proof of disability is required (doctor’s certificate or signed ITRDD13)

  • Deaf or hard-of-hearing applicants must arrange their own interpreters

Primary Duties During the Learnership:

  • Learn how to develop and implement procurement schedules

  • Manage procurement relationships and contracts

  • Monitor and evaluate procurement performance


Learner Responsibilities:

  • Attend and participate in all classroom sessions

  • Complete assignments and projects

  • Maintain a practical logbook

  • Write assessments to demonstrate progress and understanding


Required Competencies:

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of Rand Water’s mandate and role in the water sector

Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication

Attitude:

  • Self-motivated

  • Results-driven
