Purpose of the Job

To drive employee engagement and alignment within Sasol Mining’s operational teams (surface and underground) through targeted, effective communication initiatives. This role ensures frontline staff are well-informed, motivated, and connected to Sasol’s safety, productivity, and organisational values.


Key Responsibilities

1. Employee-Focused Communication Strategy

  • Develop and implement communication plans tailored to mine and surface teams.

  • Use platforms such as shift briefings, noticeboards, SMS alerts, and digital screens.

  • Align messaging with safety protocols, operational updates, and strategic goals.

2. Engagement & Culture Building

  • Establish two-way communication channels (e.g., pulse surveys, feedback boxes).

  • Partner with shift supervisors and union reps to co-create relatable content.

  • Highlight frontline success stories and team spotlights.

3. Content Creation & Dissemination

  • Create operation-specific content (videos, infographics, newsletters) in various languages and formats.

  • Ensure content is suitable for different literacy levels and work shifts.

  • Provide timely updates during critical incidents (e.g., safety alerts, shutdowns).

4. Event & Campaign Execution

  • Organise on-site engagement events (e.g., Safety Day, family visits).

  • Lead employee recognition initiatives like the “Super League Awards.”

5. Compliance & Brand Alignment

  • Ensure materials comply with MHSA, SLPs, and Sasol’s brand standards.

  • Track communication effectiveness through participation metrics and compliance improvements.


Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Communication, Journalism, or related field (NQF 6/7)

  • Certification in Employee Engagement or Events Management (advantageous)


Experience Required

  • Minimum 3 years of relevant communication experience
