Job Overview
The Fire Prevention Assistant will support the Fire Prevention Officer in executing fire prevention programs, maintaining equipment, and conducting inspections and emergency drills. The role plays a key part in ensuring a safe environment for employees, contractors, and visitors through proactive fire risk reduction and compliance with fire safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
-
Promote safety and good housekeeping practices.

Report and address unsafe conditions or fire hazards.

Attend training in fire safety and prevention procedures.

Perform safety inspections as required.
Fire Prevention & Emergency Response
-
Support fire suppression activities with minimal damage to property and personnel.

Assist in organizing and overseeing fire and emergency drills.

Maintain firefighting equipment in accordance with safety codes and procedures.
Equipment & Facility Inspections

Inspect buildings for fire safety compliance and adherence to regulations.

Conduct daily checks on firefighting equipment: extinguishers, hydrants, alarms, detection systems.

Check emergency exits, firebreaks, evacuation routes, and assembly points.

Support hazard control in areas storing hazardous materials.
Administrative & Reporting

Maintain accurate records and logs of inspections and incidents.

Assist in preparing reports on findings, violations, and recommendations.

Provide support during mine emergencies and participate in stakeholder collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Grade 12 / N3 Technical
-
Fire Fighter 1 & 2 Certificates
-
Fire Prevention & Risk Assessment or HIRA Certificate
-
Hazmat Awareness and Operations Certificate
-
First Aid Level 3 Certificate
-
Registered with SAQCC
-
Valid South African Driver’s License
-
Advantageous: Basic Ambulance Assistance Certificate
Experience
-
2–3 years in fire prevention and maintenance (preferred)
