Position Overview

The Business Unit Manager will report to the Operations Manager and be based in Wadeville. This senior-level role is responsible for overseeing strategic and operational activities of the business unit to ensure sustainable growth, operational excellence, and alignment with company goals.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and enforce Zero Harm safety culture and compliance with global safety standards.

  • Drive and execute the strategic growth plan for the business unit.

  • Oversee and manage human capital in line with company policies.

  • Manage resources to meet productivity, turnaround time, and sales targets.

  • Ensure adherence to production schedules, quality control, machine builds, and WIP (Work In Progress) targets.

  • Lead Continuous Improvement (CI) and Operational Excellence (OpEx) initiatives.

  • Forecast resource requirements and align with capacity planning.

  • Champion Monozukuri and the K-way principles of Komatsu.

  • Mentor, train, and motivate staff for performance and development.

  • Identify new market trends and business opportunities to expand operations.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments for integrated growth.


Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Production Management, or similar)

  • Postgraduate qualification in Business or Project Management (advantageous)

  • Supervisory or management course focused on people leadership (advantageous)

  • Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a manufacturing/engineering/operations leadership role

  • In-depth knowledge of manufacturing and lean principles

  • Experience managing a unionized workforce

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

  • ERP system experience (preferably SAP)

  • Valid driver’s license and own transport
