Opportunity Overview
AFGRI is offering a 3-year Apprenticeship Programme for individuals interested in pursuing a career as a Tractor Mechanic or Earthmoving Mechanic. This structured in-service training includes practical experience, theoretical learning, and manufacturer-led product training.
Initial Phase:

The first 6 months is a probationary period.

Either party may withdraw during this time without consequence.

Upon successful completion, the apprentice will enter into a binding contract with AFGRI.
Training Includes:
-
Attendance at a Practical Training Institute (phased learning, if required)
-
Distance learning toward N-subjects via college (if applicable)
-
Saturday class attendance (if required)
-
Product training from John Deere and other suppliers
-
Internal training hosted by supplier and AFGRI specialists
Note: Training costs are covered if passed. Failed modules must be repeated at your own cost and time.
Contractual Obligations:

This is a 3-year fixed-term apprenticeship contract.

If the apprentice withdraws or fails to meet requirements, repayment of costs may apply, calculated based on phase and timing.

A work-back period applies post-qualification.

Contract cannot exceed 4 years in total.
Apprentice Duties Will Include:

Training in mechanical repairs and maintenance

Stock control responsibilities
-
Customer service interactions
-
General workplace duties
Minimum Application Requirements:

Valid South African driver’s license
-
Good communication and administrative skills
-
Basic computer literacy
Qualification Pathways (choose one):
Option 1: N2 with the following subjects:

Mathematics

Engineering Science
-
Diesel Trade Theory
-
One of the following:
-
Industrial Electronics
-
Engineering / Technical Drawing

Motor Trade Theory
-
OR
Option 2: Matric with relevant subjects (Passed):

Mathematics (Not Mathematical Literacy)
