Purpose of the Position
The Linkage Officer will focus on ensuring successful navigation and linkage of people who use drugs (PWUD) to services offered under the PWUD Programme.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10 or Senior Certificate.
- HTS counselling certificate (preferred).
- Experience in linkage to care (preferred).
- Experience in primary health care facilities, hospital settings, or community work with PWUD (preferred).
- Ability to travel when required.
- Fluency in English, Afrikaans, or any South African language.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Client Recruitment:
- Recruit PWUD clients to nurses or HTS counsellors for services.
Relationship Development:
- Build strong partnerships with health facilities to ensure successful linkages.
Data Management:
- Collect and maintain accurate data on referrals and linkage outcomes.
- Record referrals in DoH HTS registers and submit programme reports.
Client Navigation:
- Support PWUD in accessing health facilities for care linkage.
Skills and Competencies

- Reporting: Strong report-writing and record-keeping abilities.
- Planning: Efficient in organizing and implementing program activities.
- Communication: Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect and collaborate.

- Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Knowledge Areas:
- Key Populations, HIV, STIs, and TB prevention approaches.
- Understanding of health facilities and their operations.
