Purpose of the Position

The Linkage Officer will focus on ensuring successful navigation and linkage of people who use drugs (PWUD) to services offered under the PWUD Programme.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10 or Senior Certificate.
  • HTS counselling certificate (preferred).
  • Experience in linkage to care (preferred).
  • Experience in primary health care facilities, hospital settings, or community work with PWUD (preferred).
  • Ability to travel when required.
  • Fluency in English, Afrikaans, or any South African language.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Client Recruitment:

    • Recruit PWUD clients to nurses or HTS counsellors for services.
  2. Relationship Development:

    • Build strong partnerships with health facilities to ensure successful linkages.
  3. Data Management:

    • Collect and maintain accurate data on referrals and linkage outcomes.
    • Record referrals in DoH HTS registers and submit programme reports.
  4. Client Navigation:

    • Support PWUD in accessing health facilities for care linkage.

  • Reporting: Strong report-writing and record-keeping abilities.
  • Planning: Efficient in organizing and implementing program activities.
  • Communication: Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect and collaborate.
  • Empathy: Non-judgmental and supportive approach.
  • Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Knowledge Areas:
    • Key Populations, HIV, STIs, and TB prevention approaches.
    • Understanding of health facilities and their operations.
