Position Purpose
This apprenticeship program is part of Transnet's Human Capital Development Strategy, designed to recruit and develop a skilled workforce to support the company's productivity and profitability goals. The program offers formal training and practical exposure for learners to be trained as artisans in instrumentation.
Position Outputs
- Installation of machinery in workshops.
- Repair and maintenance of machines and buildings.
- Conducting mechanical fault-finding and repairs on electrohydraulic machines, including motorized equipment.
- Performing preventative maintenance (PMs) and reporting defects.
- Overhauling, modifying, and upgrading machines and equipment.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
- Educational Requirements:
- NTC2 with four relevant trade subjects, all passed.
- OR Technical National Certificate Vocational Level 4 or higher with seven subjects passed.
- OR Technical Matric Certificate, including Pure Mathematics and Physical Science, with trade theory passed.
- All subjects must be passed at 50% or higher.

- Basic technical understanding of instrumentation and mechanical systems.

- Communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Additional Requirements
- Applicants must be South African citizens without any other bursary obligations.
- Preference will be given to candidates:
- Under 35 years old (South African youth).
- With strong academic results.
- Training aligns with Transnet’s Employment Equity Plan and Recruitment Policy.
- Training will take place at Transnet's Faculty of Engineering Campus.
- No guarantee of permanent employment post-training.
- No accommodation or transport assistance will be provided.
