Position Purpose
The purpose of this apprenticeship is to recruit and develop a highly skilled workforce to support Transnet's business growth, improving productivity and profitability. This training program is a key part of Transnet's Human Capital Development Strategy and aims to prepare learners to become artisans in carpentry.
Position Outputs
- Installation of machines in workshops.
- Repair and maintenance of buildings and machines.
- Mechanical fault-finding and repairs to electrohydraulic machines, including motorized equipment.
- Conduct preventative maintenance (PMs) and report defects.
- Overhaul, modify, and upgrade machines and equipment.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Minimum Education:
- NQF Level 3 (Grade 11 or 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science.
- Added Advantage: Engineering Graphics & Design or Civil Technology.
- OR N2 Certificate with:
- Woodwork Theory/Carpentry Theory.
- Building Science.
- Mathematics.
- Building Drawing.
- All subjects must be passed with 50% or above.
Competencies and Skills
- Technical Skills: Safety knowledge, basic mechanical knowledge.
- Soft Skills:
- Communication and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Conflict handling.
- End-user computing proficiency.
Additional Requirements
- Must be a South African citizen without any other bursary obligations.
- Preference for South African youth (under 35) and candidates with strong academic results.
- Selection aligns with Transnet’s Employment Equity Plan and Recruitment Policy.
- Training provided at the Transnet Faculty of Engineering Campus.
- No guarantee of permanent employment post-training.
