Job Title: MEA Support Assistant

Department: HSSE
Reporting To: Head of HSSE Department
Location: MEA Witbank Office and MEA Johannesburg Office


Purpose of Position

The Cleaner plays a crucial role in ensuring a clean, safe, and organized environment for all employees and visitors by maintaining high cleanliness standards and adhering to safety protocols.


Key Responsibilities

Opening and Closing Procedures:

  • Unlock and secure all doors at the beginning and end of the workday.
  • Ensure all office spaces, meeting rooms, and storage areas are securely locked after cleaning or before leaving for the day.

General Office Cleaning and Maintenance:

  • Dust and sanitize work surfaces, desks, shelves, and cabinets.
  • Vacuum and clean carpets and rugs, conducting deep cleaning when needed.
  • Clean glass surfaces such as windows, mirrors, and glass doors.
  • Sanitize office equipment like printers and computers.
  • Disinfect door handles, light switches, and shared equipment.

Kitchen and Appliance Cleaning:

  • Clean and disinfect kitchen surfaces like counters, sinks, and backsplashes.
  • Clean the refrigerator and microwave weekly, removing odors and food buildup.
  • Sanitize appliances (coffee machines, toasters) after use and ensure they are turned off.
  • Wash and organize kitchenware daily.

Restroom and Sanitation Maintenance:

  • Clean and disinfect toilets, sinks, and counters.
  • Refill supplies such as soap, toilet paper, and hand towels.
  • Maintain restroom cleanliness and ensure bins are emptied regularly.
  • Perform regular checks to ensure the restrooms are tidy and stocked.

Plant and Greenery Care:

  • Water plants and ensure they are healthy.
  • Report any issues with plant health or pests to management.

Meeting Room Preparation and Refreshments:

  • Set up refreshments for meetings, including coffee, tea, water, and snacks.
  • Ensure meeting rooms are clean and organized before and after use.
  • Clean whiteboards and ensure all presentation equipment is prepared.

Inventory Management and Office Supplies:

  • Monitor and order office supplies to prevent shortages.
  • Organize storage areas to ensure easy access to supplies.
  • Work with management to track inventory and suggest bulk purchases if needed.

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Wear required PPE as per safety guidelines.
  • Report unsafe conditions or acts promptly.
  • Follow proper disposal procedures for hazardous materials.
  • Use safe cleaning products in designated areas.

Storage and Cupboard Maintenance:

  • Clean and organize storage cupboards and cabinets regularly.
  • Rotate supplies as needed, checking for expired products.

Waste Management:

  • Empty trash bins daily and separate recyclables from general waste.
  • Follow proper disposal protocols and ensure compliance with local regulations.

Specialized Cleaning Tasks:

  • Perform deep cleaning of hard floors and clean air vents and filters.
  • Spot clean carpets and upholstery as needed.

Delegation of Authority

  • As per Board-approved Delegation of Authority (DOA) and as necessary for functions outside the DOA.
  • As delegated by the Head of HSSE Department, when necessary.

Personal Qualifications and Experience

Education / Achievement:

  • Grade 12

Experience / Knowledge:

  • At least 5 years of experience in a corporate cleaning role

Specific Skills:

  • Health and Safety knowledge
