Job Advert Summary
Macsteel is looking for a dynamic and motivated Warehouse Operator to join the team in the Tube and Pipe division. This entry-level position is ideal for candidates who are eager to grow and develop their skills within the warehouse. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of tasks including the safe handling of materials, operating warehouse machinery, and ensuring efficient stock control. Candidates must have valid licenses for Code 14, forklift, and crane operation, as well as at least 6 months of experience with an overhead crane.
Minimum Requirements
- Education: Grade 12 (Std 10)
- Licenses:
- Valid Code 14 with PDP
- Valid Forklift License (7-ton forklift experience preferred)
- Valid Overhead Crane License (with experience)
- Skills:
- Strong attention to detail
- Good time-keeping skills
- Literate in English (read, write, and speak)
- Ability to communicate effectively with teams
- Strong customer service skills (internal and external)
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and work shifts/overtime
- Experience: At least 6 months of experience in overhead crane operation and working in a warehouse environment.
- Additional Skills (Advantageous):
- Knowledge of specialized steel
- Experience with measuring tools like a tape measure and Vernier caliper
Duties and Responsibilities
Material Handling:
- Receive and verify materials against supplier delivery notes for correct sizes, quantities, and quality.
- Ensure materials are stored in allocated areas correctly.
- Mark, pack, and label items after bundles are broken.
- Load and offload materials using forklifts or cranes.
- Operate machines and assist with picking, packing, and strapping materials.
- Ensure materials are stored to prevent rust or damage, and clean rusted materials as needed.
Safety and Housekeeping:
- Maintain safety protocols and perform routine safety inspections.
- Ensure walkways and bay areas are clear of obstructions and marked for safety.
- Perform daily crane and forklift checks and report defects immediately.
- Conduct general housekeeping tasks within the warehouse.
Stock and Data Management:
- Scan and record material movement in SAP.
- Assist with cycle counting and report stock shortages or damages.
- Weigh incoming and outgoing vehicles when required.
- Report discrepancies and ensure accurate stock records.
Other Duties:
- Perform shunting duties and assist across all gantry and bays.
- Ensure all tasks are completed accurately and on time.
