About the Role:

Ampath National Reference Laboratory is seeking a Learner Lab Assistant to join the NRL Prelab team in Centurion. This entry-level position provides an excellent opportunity for recent matriculants to gain experience in a laboratory setting and learn about specimen processing. If you have a passion for healthcare and laboratory work, this could be your first step into the medical pathology field.


Purpose of the Position:

The primary purpose of the Learner Lab Assistant role is to support laboratory operations by receiving, processing, and handling specimens accurately and efficiently, while maintaining quality and safety standards.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 12 (Matric) is required.
  • Experience: No prior experience needed; however, a keen interest in laboratory work and willingness to learn are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Specimen Processing:

    • Accurately receive and process specimens to ensure timely delivery of test results.
    • Follow strict protocols and procedures for handling biological samples.
  2. Automate Operations:

    • Assist in operating automated laboratory equipment to ensure optimal performance.
    • Monitor equipment and report any issues promptly to maintain efficiency.
  3. Laboratory Maintenance:

    • Perform general tasks to uphold safety and accreditation standards.
    • Keep the work area clean and organized, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  4. Client Relations:

    • Provide courteous service to clients and healthcare professionals, helping to maintain a positive image of Ampath.
