About the Role:

Ampath is currently seeking a dedicated Lab Helper for its Clinical Pathology department at the Donald Gordon Medical Centre in Parktown. This entry-level role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in gaining experience in a clinical laboratory environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various support tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of the laboratory operations.


Purpose of the Position:

The primary purpose of the Lab Helper role is to assist with general duties within the Clinical Pathology laboratory, ensuring that the work environment remains clean, safe, and adequately stocked with necessary supplies.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Grade 10 certificate.
  • Experience: Basic understanding and experience with the Meditech system is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Materials Management:

    • Assist with inventory and materials management functions.
    • Replenish necessary supplies on the laboratory benches to ensure continuous operations.
  2. Laboratory Maintenance:

    • Clean laboratory glassware and equipment thoroughly to prevent contamination.
    • Maintain cleanliness in the laboratory, store room, and fridge areas, ensuring a safe and hygienic work environment.
  3. Client Relations:

    • Provide courteous and professional support to clients, promoting a positive image of Ampath services.
  4. Administrative Support:

    • Perform general administrative tasks related to the laboratory to ensure efficient processing and documentation.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in completing tasks and maintaining a clean environment.
  • Organizational Skills: Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks.
  • Customer Service Orientation: Positive attitude and professional demeanor when dealing with clients.
  • Technical Knowledge: Basic familiarity with the Meditech system.
