Purpose of the Job:

To enhance employee engagement and communication within Sasol Mining’s surface and underground teams by developing and executing targeted, effective, and aligned internal communication initiatives. The goal is to keep frontline workers informed, motivated, and aligned with safety, productivity, and company values.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Communication Strategy Development:

  • Create tailored communication plans for operational teams using platforms such as shift briefings, SMS, digital screens, and noticeboards.

  • Align all messaging with safety protocols, operational priorities, and strategic objectives.

2. Engagement & Culture:

  • Develop two-way feedback tools like pulse surveys and suggestion boxes.

  • Collaborate with supervisors and union representatives to co-develop relatable, resonant communication content.

3. Content Creation & Distribution:

  • Produce multilingual, accessible materials (e.g., videos, newsletters, infographics).

  • Disseminate real-time communication during emergencies or critical events (e.g., shutdowns, incidents).

4. Events & Campaigns:

  • Plan and execute on-site events such as Safety Days and family days.

  • Drive recognition initiatives such as the “Super League Awards” to celebrate operational achievements.

5. Compliance & Brand Standards:

  • Ensure alignment with MHSA, Social & Labour Plans (SLPs), and Sasol branding guidelines.

  • Track and evaluate communication impact using metrics like participation, feedback, and safety compliance.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Education:

    • Diploma or Degree in Communication, Journalism, or related field (NQF Level 6 or 7)

    • Certification in Employee Engagement or Event Management (advantageous)

  • Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 years in a relevant communications role, preferably within an operational or mining environment.
