Main Purpose of the Job
The Emergency Care Assistant (ECA) role serves as an entry-level position within the emergency medical services. ECAs provide essential support to Emergency Care Technicians, Practitioners, and Medical Officers, delivering care in pre-hospital settings. Their scope covers diverse environments, including urban and rural areas, homes, workplaces, mass gatherings, and more.
Key Responsibilities

Ensure operational readiness for emergency response

Provide patient care within ECA scope of practice

Report near misses, incidents, or safety concerns

Represent ER24 professionally and maintain a positive public image
Minimum Requirements
Education (Essential):

Higher Certificate in Emergency Medical Care
Education (Desired):
-
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association)
Experience (Essential):

None required (entry-level role)
Experience (Desired):
-
1 year of operational experience as an Emergency Care Assistant
Required Knowledge and Skills

Understanding of EMS operational environment

Knowledge of HPCSA scope of practice and guidelines

Familiarity with patient report forms

Knowledge of geographical area and travel routes

Effective communication in English (verbal and written)

Ability to apply best practices in emergency care
